Top 5 Tuesday – 5 Dad-Friendly Vacations from a Dad Himself

Posted by Ariel Zimmerman in District of Columbia, Las Vegas, Myrtle Beach, Nevada, South Carolina, Tennessee, Top 5

As Father’s Day is fast-approaching, we figured there was no better time to get our own Eric H., a fellow father himself, back on the blog. He shares his top five dad-friendly vacations – check it out! And Happy (almost) Father’s Day to all of the Tripbound Dad’s and Dad figures out there. Here’s to you!

World’s Best Dad? Nope, not even close. It’s not because I don’t think I’m a good dad, because I definitely do think that. It’s just a numbers game. The United States has over 70 million fathers alone. True, I could have totally made up that statistic, and I probably would have if it weren’t on the first page of my Google search results. But even if you take Billy Ray Cyrus out of the mix, and adjust for inflation, you are still talking about a lot of dads here. I think we need to be ok with being ok because being a dad isn’t about being the best. Maybe it’s just about being there, everyday, even on the days that aren’t the easiest. For each time that you get to teach your kid how to ride a bike, there are 50 times where you are pretty much playing referee to some horrible wrestling match. Even in those hectic moments, a good dad is there. That’s why I’ve embraced and earned the back-to-back-to-back title of “World’s Okayest Dad.”

World's OKAYEST Dad.

World’s OKAYEST Dad.

This doesn’t get you off the hook though. It’s still important to honor the fathers who have made a real impact on our lives. So what to get dear ole’ dad then–even if he is only the #124,347 “Best Dad in the World.” Well of course, there’s always the tie, a tried and true classic. Or you could also go with the ever-popular coffee mug, which is great for using for coffee or storing loose change–your classic double threat. Myself, I’ve always loved to give out gift cards to Subway. It’s personal, ahhh–it’s delicious, and now, since foot long subs cost six dollars, a $5 Gift ensures that dad in your life will have to put a little skin in the game if he’s going to walk out those doors with a hoagie.

I’m going to throw a little curve ball out there, how about doing something nice for your dad this year. Ties end up being used as reigns for the family dog, and mugs–well, mugs are mugs. This year, take a vacation and give him a fond memory that will stand the test of time. Dad gets to be surrounded by the ones closet to him, and everyone gets a chance to relax and recharge as a family. Sounds pretty good to me. With Tripbound’s wide array of vacation options there is certain to be one you’re your father will love. Also, many are near golf courses, so he can run away if you’re driving him crazy. So I’ve gathered a list of the Top 5 Dad Friendly Vacations just for you.

The Great Outdoors

Take your dad from the safety and comfort of his den and drop him right into the wild. All right, all right–don’t think your dad has the chops to keep your family alive in the woods? Well, how about you try one of Tripbound’s great resorts that are just a stone’s throw away from the most popular park in the U.S., Great Smoky Mountain National Park. In fact, with 6 great locations to choose from, Tripbound is basically your guide to the Smokies. Still need a reason to check out one of these resorts, I mean–other than not putting your life in the hands of your Dad’s outdoor skills? Well, book a room before 6/20 at the nearby Wyndham Resort at Fairfield Glade and get an extra 15% off your stay. (Use code “15Thrill” at checkout).

Is your dad a golfer?  Or maybe he just pretends he is.  No matter how you slice it, you can’t do much better than the condominium-style accommodations found at Wyndham Dye Villas at Myrtle Beach located in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.  With four on-site, world-class golf courses, designed by the likes of Greg Norman, Davis Love III, Tom Fazio, and Peter Dye, this resort is where golf dreams come true. Help your dad perfect his swing, or maybe just make it less embarrassing.

So, you say that father in your life is a history buff…  Well, that sounds annoying for you.  Let him talk to other people who really love history when you indulge his love for the past at possibly the most historic place in the country, Washington D.C.  History is part of the very fabric of our nation’s capital, and with a multitude of museums, national landmarks, and monuments; connecting with the past is almost effortless.  The Wyndham National Harbor is your chic, urban retreat in the nearby National Harbor district.  Take in stunning restaurants, superb shopping, and lively entertainment, all in cozy town center atmosphere set right along the Potomac River.  Located just 10 minutes from D.C., and offering a free shuttle to the city, the Wyndham National Harbor provides the perfect blend of unparalleled access and vibrant surroundings.

Nice Weather

Is there anything dads like more than complaining about the weather?  If there is, I haven’t found it.  So, if your dad curses the heavens when the weekend weather report comes on, do something about it.  Go to the city where the weather is so nice they don’t even have weather reports, San Diego.  70 miles of immaculate, sun soaked coastline and rocky cliffs are on full display for visitors.  Be amazed by the scale and power of the Naval Fleet that calls San Diego Bay home.  Take a tour of the USS Midway, take a trip to the world famous San Diego Zoo, or just pick a beach, really any beach.  The best part, your dad can now watch the Weather Channel without swearing.  Check out Tripbound’s two great San Diego offerings, the Wyndham Harbor Lights and the Wyndham Oceanside Pier.  Classic California adventure awaits.

Let the Good Times Roll

…or at least the dice. Casino lined streets, endless entertainment venues, and virtually unlimited crab leg buffets; makes Las Vegas pretty much dad heaven. The only way it could get any better would be if you let him pack his grass stained New Balances for the trip. I can say this because I own those shoes. But all kidding aside…

Las Vegas provides the ideal break from all the things your dad has to do back home. After a thrilling night at the Casino, seeing the smile on his face will make yours light up just as much. And staying in Vegas has never been more convenient when you take to the amenity rich resorts Tripbound represents. Choose from the Polo Tower Suites, Wyndham Desert Blue, or the Wyndham Grand Desert, and always be close to the action.
