Top 5 April/May Getaways Part 2
Still haven’t gone anywhere? Still slugging away at your desk? Well it’s your lucky day: here are five more spring getaway destinations awaiting your arrival.
New Orleans, Louisiana
Spring means festival season in NOLA. Festival season means music, food and people. Temps are already in the mid seventies, so grab a bike and tour the garden district. Ride a streetcar down St. Charles Ave, and explore the city. Don’t miss the coffee and beignets at Cafe Du Monde (like you would). Like Jazz? Good news for you as this is the actual birthplace of Jazz. The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival happens late April/early May and will serve you up all the music, food and heritage you can take. Wait a few more weeks and the New Orleans Wine and Food Experience happens on May 20 – 23.
Who wouldn’t want to go to The Islands of Aloha? Take a few days and learn to surf, or to stand up paddle board. Snorkel, walk the beach, or hike into one of the rainforests to catch a hidden waterfall and sample a fresh picked guava. Waikiki Beach is a people watching paradise, the birthplace of surfing, and may be home to the best cookies on the planet: Honolulu Cookie Company. Take one morning to hit this hidden gem: Goofy’s Cafe & Dine, you’ll thank me later.
Palm Springs, California
Start with palm trees and sand, then add modern architectural design, music, and art. Once considered Hollywood’s playground, this city has quietly become a mecca for hip events and hip people. Hang by the pool sipping cocktails, or find your way to the Uptown Design District, no matter the activity, you’ll love the warm sun, and the pace of life in this modern town. Enjoy golf? How about a spa day? Top it off with a drink at Bootlegger Tiki. This little piece of Palm Springs history offers Tropical craft cocktails, tiki kitch (is that redundant?) and great conversation.
The Wyndham Indio is your ideal desert oasis resort: swim, play tennis, float in the lazy river, or take some time to work on your golf game.
Lake Tahoe, California
Maybe you’re that outdoorsy couple that likes to straddle that winter-spring line, skiing in short sleeves, or snowboarding in your shorts. Wearing flip flops when its actually really cold. Well, Lake Tahoe may be the spot for your spring getaway. One minute you are on the slopes, the next you are hiking down to the beach to have a beer and a barbeque. Detox with a clean, organic breakfast, then go mountain biking, and ride the zipline, then hit the casinos, before a dinner out.
Kingsbury of Tahoe puts you right in the action. From skiing to swimming, you’ll be nicely situated for both.
