Wyndham Great Smokies Lodge Has Lots Of Family Fun

By: Megan W., Travel Coordinator & Mom of Two

One of the biggest expenses of a family vacation is where to stay and what your going to do while you’re on vacation. Families, I am here to tell you there are places to stay that will give you the best of both worlds.  Let me introduce you to one of my favorites, Wyndham Great Smokies Lodge in Servile, Tennessee. Here are my top 5 family & budget friendly reasons stay at Wyndham Great Smokies Lodge.

1. Onsite Wyndham Gatlinburg Water Parks

That is right! Onsite Wyndham Gatlinburg water parks right at the resort. Not only does this Wyndham resort feature an indoor water park, there are two outdoor water parks (open seasonally) for year round fun! The biggest reason we chose to stay at Wyndham Great Smokie’s lodge was knowing we could take full advantage of the indoor water park available at no additional fee. As soon as you walk into the water park you instantly see the fun through the eyes of a child. There is water slides, a wave pool, a kiddie play area, a giant water playground, hot tub, basketball hoops and more just waiting for guests to explore. Our kids (ages 2 & 5) especially loved playing bumper tubs in the giant wave pool and spending hours splashing in the water playground. Mom and dad especially loved the outdoor hot tub with a beautiful view of the mountains.

Helpful Tip – Since the Smoky Mountain water park is located inside the resort and depending on the building your unit is located – I highly recommend packing bathrobes to keep kids warm while transporting from water park back to your room.

2. Suite Styled Room At This Smoky Mountain Resort

I love these suite styled rooms at this Smoky Mountain Resort. As soon as we walked into the door of our 2 Bedroom Deluxe Unit we were pleasantly surprised to find the unit was huge! Not only did we have a 2 Bedroom Unit, we also had a full kitchen, living room and a balcony. Our kids were ecstatic to each get their own double sized bed! Mom and dad were happy to have their own room and a king bed. The washer and dryer was a lifesaver for washing and drying wet bathing suits. Once we saw the size and accessibility of the full kitchen in did a quick grocery run to the Aldi (about 5 miles away) and stocked up on groceries for the week. We saved a ton of money throughout the week by cooking breakfast, lunch and many of our dinners inside the unit. My husband (the cook in the family) especially loved the functionality of the kitchen. The kids and I loved the pull up bar area and the long kitchen table that could easily accommodate the 8 max occupancy for the 2 Bedroom Unit. We were even able to utilize the large kitchen table to work on homework with our Kindergarten. One of my favorite parts about the unit was the washer and dryer. I was able to wash and dry the bathing suits as soon as we came back from the water parks and was able to return home with suitcases full of clean clothes (A mother of two small kids dream come true!)

Helpful Tip – The resort provides sample sizes of laundry detergent, dish detergent, soap, shampoo, toilet paper, paper towels and more – no need to pack all that extra stuff. Traveling with small kids? Bring your own sippy cups, paper/plastic plates and paper/plastic bowls as most of the dishes are glass.

3. Amenities At This Wyndham Great Smokies Resort

If your kids LOVE to have FUN like mine do, this resort offers no shortage of FUN!  There are lots of amenities at this Wyndham Great Smokies Resort. We spent many morning of our trip enjoying all the amenities the resort had to offer. Our kids LOVED the 3 FREE story indoor playground which could be enjoyed by kids of any age. My 2 year old had a blast and my 5 year old loved climbing to the very top. It was very easy to keep an eye on the kids inside the indoor playground while my husband and I enjoyed freshly brewed coffee from the resorts “Mountain Marketplace.” When the kids were tuckered out from the indoor playground, we enjoyed a few rounds of Bowling, Indoor Mini Golf, indoor laser tag and played many games in the GIANT arcade room. The resort also offers onsite dining options including the “Thirsty Miner” where kids eat FREE for dinner! It really does not get much better than kids eat free on vacation. The resort even provides Wyndham guests with coupon books for arcade games, snacks, merchandise and more!

Helpful Tip – If you plan to spend a lot of time at the arcade, purchase a “ALL STAY” pass to get the most excitement for your buck. Playing multiple games can quickly add up but giving your kids a pre-paid card helps not to overspend over your budget.

4. Beautiful Smoky Mountains View

The beautiful smoky mountain view is easily seen throughout the resort. Our unit was located in on the golf side of the resort in the “Evergreen” building. This building overlooks the beautiful Servile Golf Course and the Smoky Mountains are not too far in the background. Although this building is not attached to the building that houses resorts Water Park, we preferred this location. We were able to take advantage of beautiful fire pit located outside the building and enjoyed a very quiet stay. Our unit was located on the bottom level and we never heard any other guests. We also took advantage of the onsite shuttle service which picked us up from the front door and dropped us off right at the water park.

Helpful Tip – When traveling to this property there are two building for Wyndham Units, “Evergreen” and “Belle Terre”. We enjoyed the quiet of the “Evergreen” building as it was not attached to the the Wilderness Hotel which seemed rather noisy and loud. “Belle Terre” is attached to the water park building and requires almost a quarter mile walk to the water park

5. Location Of Wyndham Smokies Vacation Rentals

There is a choice of several locations of Wyndham Smokies Vacation Rentals. When taking a trip to the Smoky Mountains there are several towns to chose from – Servile, Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. Wyndham Vacation Resorts Great Smokie’s Lodge is located in Servile, Tennessee which is the first town you drive into when arriving to the Smoky Mountains area. This town was adorable, quaint and easy to navigate. There were lots of great restaurants including our favorite Applewood Farmhouse which serves complimentary serving of Apple Fritters®, Homemade Apple Butter and Applewood Julep® and a choice of their Homemade Farmhouse Soup served with every meal! The resort is also located near fun shopping including the Tanger Outlets, Smoky Mountain Knife Works and the Christmas Store.

Helpful Tip – We did our grocery shopping at Aldi which provides small quantities of groceries which was perfect for our 5 night stay and we did not have to throw out any perishable food. The resort also collects non-perishable food for the local foodbank.
