Our Ultimate ‘Day at the Lake’ Packing List

Bobbing around on the shimmering waters of your favorite lake is one of the most relaxing ways to spend a summer day. But tending to the needs of your family can turn your day of rest into a chore. To save you from making endless runs to the pier for supplies, we’ve created the ultimate packing list to make sure that nothing comes between you and your day at the lake.

1. The basics:

Be sure to pack plenty of towels, swimsuits and a change of dry clothes for everyone, and life jackets. Check straps and buckles to make sure the jackets are working properly. And bring a couple of watertight first aid kits for any unexpected cuts and scrapes. A box of ziplock bags always comes in handy for keeping sand and water out of your electronics.

2. Sun protection:

Make sure every member of the family has sunglasses, sunblock, and hats to protect their skin from the harsh rays and reflections at the lake.

3. On the water:

Before you head out on the boat, be sure everyone has their swim goggles or snorkeling masks, and that the floats and inner tubes are intact and inflated. If you have little ones, don’t forget to pack the swim diapers. Also, bring plenty of bottled water along as you’ll get hot on the water. If you plan to do some fishing, be sure to have your fishing license in a waterproof package (a ziplock bag will do).

4. Back on dry land:

Don’t forget the sand toys to keep the kids entertained while the adults get cooking. If you’re having a cookout, be sure to bring your own charcoal, lighter fluid, tongs, and foil. A cooler with lots of ice will be needed to keep drinks cold. Serve up lunch with recyclable plates, cups, and utensils. And don’t forget the wet wipes and trash bags to clean up when you’re done.
